Thunder Water Polo Programs

Looking to participate in a sport that requires skill, strength, strategic thinking and the desire to play as part of a team? Whichever level you play at, water polo can enhance your life, improving fitness, strength and coordination.

Whether you are looking to play casually or competitively, you'll find Thunder Water Polo to be a great place to learn new skills and meet new friends.  We offer several different programs from beginners to advanced.  Their is a program for everyone.

  • Swim to Play - Swim Skills Ages 7-13
  • Splashball - Entry Level Ages 6 to 9
  • Novice - New to Water Polo 10U / 12U / 14U
  • Age Group - Advanced 10U / 12U / 14U
  • High School - Beginner to Advanced 16U / 18U
  • Masters - Ages 19 to 99

Swim to Play:

Swimming is a foundational skill of Water Polo.  Having good swim skills and endurance are the key objectives of our Swim to Play program.  This program will help develop the athletes strokes (freestyle, breast, back and dolphin kick) giving them the needed skills to be confident in the water.  This is not swim lessons and a coach will not be in the water during the practices, so all participants must be able to swim 25 yards independently.  

Splashball:

Splashball is designed to introduce young athletes to the great sport of water polo, in addition to providing them with the tools and skills needed to succeed when playing at higher levels.  Splashball is taught in the shallow end of the pool.  This program will harness all the fun, dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy to learn environment that will motivate kids to swim and stay fit. 

Novice:

Our Novice program is a great option for those that are new to the sport and are between the ages of 10 and 14.  In this program, athletes will learn all of the basics of the sport, making sure that they are ready to compete in higher levels when the time comes.  This team practices in the deep end of the pool, so it is best if the athlete has some swimming experience. 

Age Group:

The Age Group program concentrates on developing the tools that athletes 10U / 12U / 14U will need to achieve their athletic goals and personal potential.  This program is for our athletes that are ready to compete in games against other clubs.   We will focus on long term athletic development, learning basic water polo skills as well as fine-tuning their skills and fundamentals. 

High School: 

Our High School program centers on providing training that will prepare athletes to have success at any level of play.  Our High School program accommodates all athletes 16U / 18U, from novice to experienced.  In this program, our practices are focused on enhancing and strengthening our conditioning, introducing new skills, and learning advanced in-gam tactics. 

Masters:

Our Masters program is a co-ed multi-skill level group.  Members' ages range from 19 to 50+, and experience levels range from NCAA college athletes to parents of our current athletes trying to relive their childhood.  This is a fun interactive program that competes in several tournaments through the year.   Practice is typically one night per week.
